Royalex was a vinyl skin over ABS, ABS foam, ABS and vinyl that was used for many years as a very successful canoe body material. Royalex was discontinued in 2013 when PolyOne purchased Spartech, who was the sole manufacturer and held the rights to it (PolyOne subsequently increased pricing by 20% before discontinuing it altogether).
Royalex was invented in the 1970’s by Uniroyal as a replacement for aluminum canoes and it successfully sold into that application for more than thirty years.
